Watch this surfer skim the waves in a SUMO suit

This footage shows the moment a surfer abandoned his board and skimmed along the water's surface in a giant inflatable SUMO suit.

Guillaume Mangiarotti was filmed catching some waves in the waters off the coast of Hossegor, France.

As the wave picks up speed, the surfer uses the momentum to leap from his board and into the rapid water below.

The suit keeps Guillaume afloat and he continues surfing without his board.

The footage was filmed from a Jet Ski by videographer Etienne Bellan-Huchery.

“The name of the suit that is used in the video is Sumo and Splash Guard Combo," said the 49-year-old who lives in Bayonne, France.

“I hope everybody has a good laugh and wonders how the hell did they pull that trick off.

“I'm on the jet ski, Hermine my pilot is cruising down the wave and I just focus on following the rider, trying to make it as smooth as possible.

“Guillaume ended up swallowed by the wave.”
