Tasmanian Devil mom piggybacks her rambunctious babies

The 'piggy-back' behaviour shown is typical of joeys this age because they can no longer fit in their mother's pouch and allows the mother to still protect her young.

This is the adorable moment that a mother Tasmanian devil rounded up her four babies before carrying them all on her back at the same time.

The stellar parenting work of mother, Rosalind, was caught on night vision camera at Healesville Sanctuary near Melbourne, Australia.

The 'piggy-back' behaviour shown is typical of joeys this age because they can no longer fit in their mother's pouch and allows the mother to still protect her young.

Once these joeys reach six to eight months old, they will become more confident and slowly start venturing out on their own as they do in the wild.

Rosalind gave birth to her litter of joeys only five months ago and they have yet to be named.

They were born as part of the 'Save the Tasmanian Devil' breeding recovery program, which aims to increase the numbers of the critically endangered species.

Healesville Sanctuary and the 'Save the Tasmanian Devil' breeding recovery program aims to have a disease-free insurance population, to ensure a long-term future for this species.

The video was filmed on August 2021.
