A father and his two sons have built a huge following by running a series of intense matchbox car races on their home treadmill.

Videos show Hot Wheels, toy NASCARs and various other racing miniatures vying for top position as the treadmill spins faster and faster.

Dad Steve Wilkins, 46, enthusiastically commentates the high-octane races, cheers for the fictional drivers and encourages fans to "pick their drivers" for each chaotic heat.

The videos have garnered hundreds of thousands of views since Steve posted his first last year.

Steve, a real estate broker, from Burlington, Ontario, said: “We first started at the beginning of COVID, when we had a lot of time to spend together.

“We originally sent it to family and friends and they seemed to like it. I literally put it on my real estate YouTube because my kids wanted to put it online.”

Steve credits his 10-year-old son Tyler for coming up with the original idea for the races, but his 12-year-old Dylan also helps set up the races.

He said: “We have some racers in the family and we watch races together. We really enjoy the fun together and goofing around.”

Steve was quite surprised by the videos’ success and amazed at the effect they have had on his business.

He said: “I was at a client’s house and they claimed that they hired me because I was a family guy."

“They literally put my video up on their TV while I was there.”

As for the winners of the races, the results seem to imitate real life.

Steve says that the toy modeled on seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson wins the races more often than not.

He added: “People in the comments are always rooting for their favorite cars.

“There are people who want to send us cars and stuff and others who want to sponsor cars on behalf of their companies.”
