Staff at a hospital have handmade adorable Halloween costumes for their NICU babies.

Staff at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, Florida, US, dressed up their tiny patients as PacMan, McDonald's fries and even a UPS driver to celebrate the spooky season.

The cute costumes were made by the night nurses and the photos were sent home to delighted parents.

As the babies will be unable to spend the holiday at home, the team hoped to “normalize the NICU environment and keep families’ spirits high.”

Morgan King, hospital marketing representative, said: “As you can imagine, having a baby in the NICU can be very stressful for parents.

“Sometimes they expected to bring their baby home with them and couldn’t - and it’s a way of making both the parents and babies feel special in a tough time."

“This is the third year we’ve done this now and the night nurses have really outdone themselves with the costumes this time around.

“You can tell from the costumes how much the nurses care for the babies and their families – they really go above and beyond to make it feel special."

“It’s a way to make NICU feel more normal and feel a little more like home.

The hospital advises parents against allowing babies to sleep with items placed on top of them in the crib - and said the costumes were purely for photos.

The pictures were taken on October 19.
