Spooky pictures show creatures of all shapes and sizes getting into the Halloween spirit at Chester Zoo after they were given pumpkins to play within their enclosures.

Animals from bears, lemurs and monkeys to more sinister spiders, ants and snakes were given the snacks to tuck into this week by their keepers.

Carved pumpkins were drenched in fish blood to peak the Komodo dragon’s interest while holes were cut for the Boelen’s pythons to slither through.

Others were filled with tasty fruit for the sun bears and lemurs to enjoy resulting in a set of comical as well as terrifying photos.

Conservationists at the zoo say providing food in an unusual and interesting way is great enrichment as it gives animals the opportunity to forage for food in new ways.

Chester Zoo is home to almost 20,000 animals and more than 500 different species and is the most visited zoo in Britain.
