Breathtaking autumnal photographs show a beautifully clear rainbow reflecting off perfectly still waters as if formed over the hills of North Wales.

Wildlife photographerAndrew Fusek-Peters was traveling through Porthmadog, Wales when he chanced upon the stunning spectacle at the estuary of the Afon Glaslyn.

“We were driving through Porthmadog and reached the estuary. There was no wind and it was perfectly still," he said.

“We could see the distant hills were reflecting on the water, so we parked in town and walked back. I noticed as we walked back that this rainbow was starting to appear – getting stronger and stronger. I couldn't believe what I was seeing."

He captured the colorful rainbow arching across the whole estuary while dark storm clouds loomed in the background over a rugged countryside landscape.

Other images show a rare great northern diver reflecting off the water alongside the rainbow in the calm before the storm on Tuesday (November 2).

Andrew, of Lydbury North, England believes the images are the best he has ever taken of a rainbow since he became a professional photographer seven years ago.

“To not only get a nice complete rainbow but to get it reflected was just extraordinary. I have never seen a rainbow like this," he said.

“We had about 15 minutes of shooting time before the heavens opened up, then we got absolutely soaked and that was it. You can see the storm brewing in the background of the pictures, which gives it an extra dimension.

"The bird on the water is also quite rare - it’s called a great northern diver - so that was quite a catch for me as well.

“Even though the forecast was that it was good weather, I really was in the right place at the right time. If we hadn’t had chanced it, we wouldn’t have been able to get these amazing photos.

“I always carry my Olympus EM Mark III with me because it is small and portable – you never know what you are going to see or find.”
