This incredible 4K footage shows a night-time flyover of a volcano eruption site in Iceland.

Fagradalsfjall volcano on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula began its much-anticipated eruption on March 19, 2021.

It marked the first volcanic explosion on the Reykjanes Peninsula in over 800 years.

Drone operator Vilius Petrikas was able to capture history by flying his camera over the site in the dead of night.

Footage reveals the main volcanic cone and the surrounding smaller cones spewing lava. A closed valley, surrounded by mountains, then slowly fills with molten magma.

Vilius, 30, from Reykjavik, Iceland said: “I had never witnessed an eruption before. I was speechless.

'"It's very hard to describe how it looked and felt in person, as the power was overwhelming.

“I'm still in disbelief about what I saw, and can't wait to get back there to feel the energy of our powerful nature.”

“I'd like people to see the beauty of our planet, how alive it truly is.

''If I could add something corny, I'd say that I'd like people to find respect for our planet.”
