This is the moment a young passenger waved goodbye to his mom from the cockpit of a plane - after the pilot found out he was taking his first flight alone.

Grant White, eight, was with his sister Faith, six, and they were due to fly from Denver, Colorado, USA to Seattle, Washington.

They were flying with Southwest Airlines to see their grandparents without an adult accompanying them.

Mom Jen White, 29, knew her children would be absolutely fine but was overjoyed when the pilot ran back through into the airport to alert her to the window.

She couldn't believe her eyes when she spotted Grant and Faith inside the cockpit of the plane, waving goodbye, and managed to snap her son on camera.

Jen, from Daphne, Alabama, said: "They let me walk the children up to the jetway, and I felt confident they'd be okay, very similar to riding a bus.

"They were the first on the plane, and the pilots took them both right into the cockpit.

"I was sitting in the gate waiting for the plane to take off and was scrolling my phone when someone tapped my shoulder.

"I looked up and immediately thought my kids had done something wrong or were crying.

"He instead, lead me to the window.

"Both the kids were on either side popped out and were waving a blowing kisses, and people waiting to board.

"Behind me people were saying 'take a picture!' I fumbled for my phone and in the meantime, Faith, my daughter, popped back in so I just snagged Grant."
