An original Banksy of a rat holding a placard that reads "Welcome to Hell" will go on auction starting at more than $33,000 (£25,000).

The distinctive 2005 piece is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the artist’s amusingly named "Pest Control Office."

A stencil of a rat holding a placard reading 'welcome to hell' in pink, while wearing a "peace" symbol necklace, the design is distinctive as a Banksy work due to its unique black and white look.

Banksy has previously said about his rat portraits: “If you are dirty, insignificant, and unloved then rats are the ultimate role model.

“They exist without permission. They are hated, hunted and persecuted. They live in quiet desperation amongst the filth.

''And yet they are capable of bringing entire civilizations to their knees".

The piece will go on auction at Mallams in Oxford, England, where it is expected to fetch nearly $50,000 (£35,000) - a result of the work’s rarity and desirability.
