An adorable four-year-old boy who is fighting aggressive cancer was given an early Christmas present when he lived out his dream of being a police officer for the day.

Ethan Adams was diagnosed with Stage 4 Burkitt Leukaemia earlier this year after his parents found what they thought was a heat rash on his leg.

Dad Carl and mom Laura Adams tried to get an appointment with his GP but were told they would have to wait seven days.

Acting on gut instinct, they rushed Ethan to A&E where they were told he had cancer on June 8.

Despite the devastating news, Ethan has continued to inspire others and his parents set up a Facebook page to update supporters on his progress.

Writing on the "Ethan's Journey to Recovery" page, Laura said her little boy was “obsessed” with police cars and wanted to be a cop when he got older.

His local force, West Midlands Police, spotted the post and arranged for his dream to come true in time for Christmas.

On December 13, officers picked him up in a police van from his home in Brownhills, England.

He was then driven - on blue lights and sitting on his booster seat – to meet the Wolverhampton Police Cadets where he was made an honorary member.

Heartwarming pictures show Ethan holding up a police riot shield and giving the thumbs-up as he posed with the rest of his cadet troop.

He was also presented with a badge, T-shirt and beret before carrying out a uniform inspection and watched the police dogs being put through their paces.

The surprise came on the same day his relieved family were told that Ethan was in remission.

“Ethan had the most fabulous night. It was such a brilliant surprise for him and he hasn’t stopped talking about it since," said Lauren, 40.

"His favorite bit was riding in the front of the police van – he was impressed they’d even got him a booster seat.

“It was an emotional day and this was the perfect ending.”

Dad Carl, who gave his job as a lorry driver to care for his son, said: “We told Ethan we were going on a trip and waited outside on the drive.

"Then the police van came down the road with the blue lights flashing and Ethan said he wanted to go for a ride in it.

"When it stopped and asked him if he wanted to get in, he was just so excited.

“We really are very grateful to everyone who helped make the night possible, it was a fantastic experience.”

Assistant Police and Crime Commissioner, Tom McNeil added: “A very warm welcome to our newest cadet Ethan. I’m really pleased that Ethan has been able to become a member of the police family.

“It’s a pleasure to have another member of the team who really cares about safer communities at such a young age.

“I pay tribute to the actions of the young people in the unit and their excellent volunteer leaders who have gone above and beyond to ensure that Ethan was able to have the perfect Christmas surprise.”
