Somerset County Cricket Club has created a permanent home for its number one fan to enjoy an uninterrupted view of its matches - a ginger tom called Brian.

The feline sporting enthusiast has bowled over fans of Somerset County Cricket Club and become one of the most recognizable faces at its home games.

Brian's exploits have even seen him given his own Facebook page with supporters regularly uploading pictures of him in the stands.

And his dedication has now been recognized with a permanent home built especially for him to offer shelter at the County Ground in Taunton.

The actions are in stark contrast to the widespread outrage over the actions of West Ham footballer Kurt Zouma who was filmed kicking his cat at his home. The anger was compounded by the decision of the club to start him in last night's 1-0 win over Watford.

Somerset County Cricket Club said it teamed up with local building supplies firm Bradfords to keep who it described as its "most famous follower" safe and warm through the colder months.

Paul Malloy, head of marketing at Bradfords, cut the ribbon to the home on Monday, February 7.

He said: "We know how loved Brian is within the SCCC community, so when we were approached to get involved and help where we can, the answer was yes.

"Our passion is to help to sustain and grow communities, whether its supplying building materials for people to have their dream home, to helping the smaller members of our community to be safe.

"We are proud to be involved and excited to see Brian in his own house and living his best life."

The club says Brian is arguably its "most recognisable visitor" and has now taken up residence in his cozy new house outside the Andy Caddick Pavilion.

They said he will now have one of the best views in the house when Somerset return to County Championship action in April.
