This is the incredible moment firefighters rescued a dog who had fallen down a 15-foot hole in the ground.

Officers attended the scene in Paxton, Florida last week (February 9) after receiving reports that a pooch named Maddie had gotten trapped.

South Walton Fire District’s Technical Rescue Team arrived at about 3 PM and assessed the air quality inside the cavity, before sending down a ladder.

The dog was also given a bucket of water ahead of the rescue.

A firefighter then descended, attached to a safety line from the fire truck, and made contact with the pup, who was uninjured and happy to see a friendly face.

Video footage shows the moment three firefighters struggle to get the dog out the hole due to the small opening, and encouraging her with "come on sweetheart."

A safety harness was built from some webbing and the dog was strapped in before being lifted out to safety.

According to South Walton Fire District, Maddie was taken in by a family friend after she was rescued to be looked after until her owners collected her.

Walton County Animal Control and Walton County Public Works then arrived to evaluate the pooch before filling in the hole with dirt to prevent further accidents.

A social media post from South Walton Fire District said: "We are very grateful to have been a part of this happy ending and appreciate the professional and quick work of all responding agencies."
