A Ukrainian living in Britain spotted a beautiful rainbow which he says is a "sign of hope" to his family and friends in the war-zone.

The uplifting sight of a rainbow over Swindon gave life to Vadym Gurevych - who said it was "literally the first time in days that I had looked up at the sky" and described the instance as "very symbolic."

Mr. Gurevych, 43, was on the phone to his father in Ukraine at the time and has dedicated the picture to his family and friends in Kharkiv - the city where he was born.

The photographer and businessman, who moved to the UK in 2005, has also devoted the uplifting image taken on Monday (Feb. 28) to the community in Swindon, Wilts., who are collecting humanitarian aid for Ukraine.

He writes: "For the first time in five days I managed to look up at the sky.

"I see this beautiful rainbow as a sign from the Universe, as a symbol of hope.

"Hope not just for Ukraine, but for the whole humanity.

"As today we, humans, our civilization, have once again come together, united against evil, against wrong.

"I would like to dedicate this photo to my dad, my friends, my family in Kharkiv, and all citizens of Ukraine who are living through the war.

"To my mother-in-law, who managed to escape from Kyiv and thousands of her fellow refugees who made their way to the western borders of Ukraine.

"To the unbelievably kind and supporting people of Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and other countries who welcomed Ukrainians and are looking after them.

"To the amazing community of Swindon, and other cities and villages in the UK, and worldwide, those who help collect humanitarian aid for Ukraine.

"To those brave Russians who oppose the fascist regime.

Vadym is currently living in Swindon and runs an e-commerce software company whilst occasionally partaking in photography.

He is planning on getting married in June, and has invited his loved ones from the UK and Ukraine to come to the wedding.

"I am keeping in constant contact with my family and friends there," Mr. Gurevych added.
