Locals have been left in stitches after satellite images showed a posh hotel looking - like a WILLY.

The Scarlet Hotel describes itself as an "eco-sanctuary on the rugged Cornish clifftops, just for adults" and from the ground looks like a normal hotel.

The venue is set against a bay at Mawgan Porth, near Newquay, Cornwall, with a stunning beach and headland behind it.

But its guests have been left shocked after aerial shots revealed a phallic-shaped complex that lived up to its adults-only strapline.

Some even said they couldn't believe the original architect hadn't been "in on the joke" when designing the building - given its striking resemblance to male genitalia.

Commenting on the images on Facebook, Bryan Andrews said: "You cannot help thinking that the architect/designer was sitting sketching in his/her armchair with nothing on the telly box thinking `I wonder if I can get this part the planning dept?`

"And happy days they did. How on earth it wasn`t picked up on at the planning stage is beyond me."

Another local added: "Wow that looks like the architect knew EXACTLY what he was doing."

The structure is so big that it is not visible in its eye-raising form on the ground - but the satellite images leave little to the imagination.

Another observer added: "Only looking at it on Google Earth from a certain angle can you get the full picture. But once you see it, it is impossible to link it to anything else.

"It is apparently an in-joke amongst some locals and images have been published before - but something like this needs to be shared with a wider audience."
