A man crocheted 100 hats for homeless people in Manhattan, New York City, as part of his New Year's resolutions.

Calvin Lee, 24, set himself the goal to crochet 100 hats for the homeless to raise awareness for those in need over the bitterly cold winter months.

He said: “I've always wanted to do something for the homeless. So right before the New Year, I made a goal to make 100 hats for the homeless. I wanted to begin my year by giving back.

“I want to show people different ways you can help with the community. Trying to influence them to start helping the homeless in their community.”

New Yorker Calvin, who has been sewing for 10 years, sews 140 rows of thread into his hats to create a versatile design for the homeless.

He added: “The hats keep their ears extra warm and they can use it as a cushion when they sleep. If it's bright they can pull it down to cover their eyes.”

Calvin spent three weeks making the hats before distributing them to the homeless people living on 34th street, Times Square and 42nd street.

He has been sharing his love for crochet and sewing on TikTok for over a year and his videos have received more than 4.2 million likes.
