The birds, which can migrate as far as Eastern Europe, were flying in what is called a murmuration.

This occurs in both the autumn and early spring when the starlings fly in mass groups, while twisting and swooping into beautiful shapes.

It’s believed the birds take part in these dramatic flying aerial displays to avoid predators, such as falcons, as they offers safety in numbers.

But experts are still unsure about how thousands of the birds can fly together without knocking into one another.

Mr. Cousins, an amateur photographer, said he was "delighted" with his pictures, which he took on Sunday.
