A passerby dialed 911 when they saw the stray pooch standing on top of an apartment building in Hazelton, Pennsylvania on March 14.

When responders arrived they found a third floor balcony with the door open - which the dog had used to get out onto the roof.

But when speaking to a resident of the building they learned this was not an isolated incident, and the dog regularly walks onto the roof for a sunbathe.

A spokesperson from Hazelton Fire Department said: "We were called to an apartment block on Laurel Street to rescue a dog who was stranded on the roof.

"When we arrived it became clear the dog did not need rescuing, and we were told that he 'does it all the time.'

"We were unable to make contact with the dogs owner but the dog came down and went in to the apartment while we were at the scene."
