This is the heart-warming moment a baby elephant trapped in a water hole was reunited with its mom.

Teams from the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Kenya Wildlife Service received reports of an infant calf who had fallen into a water hole and raced to the baby's side.

The calf had fallen into a water hole in Tsavo East National Park, Kenya.

Upon arrival, the teams drove their vehicle up to the water hole to keep the mother away before pulling the baby out of the trough.

As soon as the mother elephant realized that her baby was freed she let out a series of joyful trumpets.

The rescue team said: "The herd had exhausted all avenues to extract the baby, and the mother was reduced to despondently pacing around the periphery.

"Without intervention, she would be forced to leave her baby behind.

"When we arrived on the scene, the mother was despondent and defeated. The instant her baby was freed, however, she became a changed elephant."

The incident happened on March 4, 2022.
