A rare Star Wars poster became a "life-saber" as it fetched £13,000 ($17,148) for Ukraine war victims at a charity auction.

The iconic graphic made in 1977 was an advertisement for "Star Wars: A New Hope," the first movie in the now-beloved franchise.

It sold yesterday (March 24) for £13,000 ($17,148), with all funds being donated to the Disaster Emergency Committee's Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

The charity provides food, shelter and healthcare for families fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.

The original-version poster shows Luke Skywalker bearing a lightsaber with Darth Vadar's mask lurking behind him, while the words "May the force be with you" are inscribed in the top right.

It was designed by the Hildebrandt Brothers and bidding has started at just £10 at the Prop Store auction house in Hertfordshire.

Greg Hildebrandt, one of the poster creators, pledged his support for the auction.

He said: "My wife Jean and I have been watching this horrendous war, one of the greatest disasters of modern times.

"It's overwhelming. It's beyond all human comprehension that people could do this to one another.

"I'm begging you to go and bid on this auction. Bid it into the stratosphere!"
