A town is being plagued by an amorous peacock which is attacking cars - thinking its reflection is a love rival.

The bird has been seen pecking at cars' doors and windows - leaving them covered with scratches.

In one incident the peacock was seen attacking a black car parked on the High Street in Corsham, Wilts., England, on Saturday, March 26.

The vehicle was left with bad scratches following the attack by the peacock.

It is thought the animal believed it was battling a love rival.

Corsham is one of only several towns in Wiltshire where you can see peacocks roaming the streets.

The birds are thought to attract thousands of visitors each year.

One witness posted: ”One of the peacocks was attacking a black car outside the vets because he could see his reflection.

“l moved him away but he returned and scratched the front of the car quite badly.

"l don't know if the scratches would polish out.

"And l wonder how many other cars our beautiful residents have damaged?"

The woman claims that she left a Post-it note for the car's windscreen, letting the owner know it was a bird that caused the damage.

Another resident claims the peacock attacked a brass plate attached to the bottom of a door in the High Street.

"As beautiful as they are, they can be naughty too," he said.

"Last year, the owners of this house put a nice brass plate on their door. Within a month or so, they’d removed it.

"Probably due to the peacocks attacking the reflection and banging the door."
