Amazing pictures show the breathtaking moment an ominous 'tsunami' of fog engulfed a major port town.

The photos, taken by Bianca Guguila show the moment that a wave of fog covered Plymouth Sound on Thursday (April 14.

Bianca, 37, a care worker, said: "I was mesmerized of view, this was the best phenomenon I've seen in years.

"I noticed the mist coming inland whilst I was in town and rushed to the Hoe. It's a shame I didn't have my camera on me and only took photos on my phone."

The rare weather phenomenon left onlookers 'gobsmacked' as the quick-moving wall of cloud covered the harbor.

Previously spotted in the American Great Lakes, off the coast of San Fransisco and near Taiwan, the phenomenon is global and takes place on sunny but cold days.

One onlooker posted on social media: "The Hooe and Oreston are now engulfed in the mist. Reminds me of the film Fog"

While another noted: "Looks like a scene from a horror lol"
