Striking shot of girl wins ‘eyes’ themed international photo contest

This striking shot of a green-eyed little girl staring into the camera has won an international photo contest whose theme is simply eyes.

The picture was taken in Oman and was judged a winner in the HIPA picture competition.

Snapper Turki Ibrahim Ali Al Junaibi, from Oman, said: "The photo was taken in 2020 on Masirah Island in the Sultanate of Oman.

"What attracted me to this girl was the color of her distinctive eyes and her beautiful looks.

"I felt as if her eyes were telling stories without words."

Other runner-up snaps included a man with a tattooed face by Shaji Madathakulangara Chandran from India and the blue eyes of a smiling boy by Iranian photographer Babak Mehrafshar.

Also included was fellow Iranian Mohammad Shafai's black and white study of a girl and a shot of an old scarred man blinded in one eye by Asim Ijaz from Pakistan.

Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) Secretary General, Ali bin Thalith said: “Our competitions are open to everyone and we continue to support promising talent from all over the world.

"We are pleased with the continued presence of our first-time winners with HIPA.

"We congratulate them and all the winners and as always encourage the rest of the participants to continue to develop their skills and participate in our various competitions.”

The HIPA is an internationally renowned photography competition. 

It was launched in 2011 by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and brother of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
