A dog missing for half a decade has finally been reunited with her family - after being rescued as a stray 13 miles from her home.

Ginger originally disappeared in 2017, believed to have been stolen, leaving her owner Barney Lattimore distraught.

Barney, from Janesville, Wisconsin looked everywhere for his missing pup, refusing to give up hope that one day he may see her again.

Every time he saw a dog that slightly resembled Ginger he'd pray that it was her, but it never was.

But, earlier this month, Beloit Police Department posted a picture on Facebook of a stray dog they found - five years on from when Ginger was taken.

The dog was taken to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin (HSSW) to be treated, and the shelter reached out to try and find an owner.

Barney rushed in to see if the dog resembled his long lost pooch, and as soon as they saw each other, there was no doubt it was Ginger.

The HSSW wrote on Facebook: "The excitement on the family’s faces, as well as Ginger's, when they were finally reunited was beyond memorable.

"Ginger is back with her true family and now has the opportunity to meet her new "pack" members and make up for lost time!"
