Five generations of the same family are celebrating their latest arrival of a baby girl - after all being born 20 years apart.

Mick Musson, 80, can now boast being a great-great grandfather after 20-year-old Ella Simpson gave birth to little Thea Elizabeth in April.

They are joined by Mick's daughter Angela Greensmith, 60, who is then followed by Michelle Simpson, 40, who is Ella's mom.

All five generations, from Grantham, England, are separated by an unusual 20 year age gap and Mick is one of only two males in their family of 17 people.

The former Army pilot's brood is made up of his two children, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and now one great-great grandchild.

He said he "cried tears of joy" after welcoming the latest addition of his growing family into the world and joked: "There must be something in the genes."

Mick added: "There can't be too many families about like ours to have the generations and ages like ours.

"We are very proud. Imagine my feelings when I can see all of five generations sat in front of me..

“They’re nearly all girls, too, which is unusual, there must be something in the genes.

"But I'm proud of them all and totally thrilled. My reaction when Thea was born was absolutely overwhelming.

"I was crying tears of joy. It's lovely to see them all together. My overwhelming emotion is just that of pride really."

Mick, who served with the Army Air Corps between 1959-1968, said he was surprised he has managed to build such a family tree after twice crashing a plane.

He added: “I’ve survived two plane crashes in my life, how I’ve got to 80 with all these children and grandkids around me I have no idea.

"The first was near Andover in Hampshire, I was training at the time.

"A lot of army flying is low to the ground and I tried to get between two trees, which were too close together. I had an instructor with me, too.

"The second was when I was flying in Cyprus and I had engine problems. There was a lovely green field but it turned out to be a swamp.

"The wheels dug in and flipped the whole plane at 50mph. All I did was sprain my wrist on the throttle, I was very lucky.

"It wasn't a big deal though, it’s more embarrassing but I guess you could say I’ve had to work hard to get such a big family.”

Nurse practitioner Michelle, a mom-of-three, also owns a beauty shop where Ella works while Angela is a counsellor.

Mom-of-two Angela added: "It's an uplifting story I guess. We know it's rare but not amazingly uncommon to span five generations.

"But I suppose it is quite unusual we are spaced out by 20 years. That can't happen too often."
