Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, is sweltering in heat as temperatures soared to above 86°F.

The giant pandas at Qinling Giant Panda Research Center received a special treat: watermelons, to keep cool.

In hot summer days, pandas will go outdoors before 9 A.M. After that, they will stay inside in air-conditioned rooms to cool down.

Staff will also strengthen monitoring to prevent pandas from heatstroke.
