One of the oldest and most complete collections of James Bond toys has sold for a jaw-dropping $113,830 (£93,000).

Merchandise dating back to the release of the first film, "Dr. No" in 1962, went under the hammer on Tuesday, August 9.

The 496 treasured items included figurines ranging from Roger Moore's portrayal of 007 to the hat-throwing henchman Oddjob.

The most expensive toy was a plastic model of a Lotus Esprit which sold for £2,400 ($2,937)
- smashing the £400 (489) estimate.

Meanwhile, a Secret Agent 007 set complete with gun and silencer, that was given a £600 ($734) estimate, sold for £1,300 ($1,591).

A Corgi 270 model of the iconic DB5 Aston Martin also more than doubled its expected
price tag to sell for £500 ($611).

James Bond swimming fins that were estimated at £200 ($244) made £620 ($758) while a Scalextric model of 007’s DB5 fetched £1,000 ($1,223).

A rare shooting attache case that was estimated at £500 ($611) sold for £900 ($1,101).

Other lots included replica camera guns, a bullet firing lighter and a Lone Star snipers rifle.

The collection was expected to fetch £75,000 ($91,798) but sold for a total of £93,000 at Vectis Auction House in Stockton-on-Tees, UK.

Vectis toy specialist Andrew Reed said: "This sale is nothing short of world class.

"We see James Bond collectables on a daily basis here at Vectis but it is the rarity and condition of this group that makes it so special.

"It provided a phenomenal opportunity for James Bond fans to add pieces to their collections that are rarely seen on the open market."

The rare collection was sold by a mysterious James Bond fan from Europe months before the 60th anniversary of the release of "Dr. No."
