A dog made a miracle escape after it fell 100ft off of a cliff - and is expected to make a full recovery.

Yogi the spaniel fell was rescued by the RNLI lifeboat crew after tumbling off a 100 foot cliff above St Mary's Bay in Torbay, Devon, England.

The poor pooch was found by the emergency rescue service lifeboat crews cowering and wet, with injuries to his legs, eye and spine.

The fall happened during a walk on the cliff top on August 16.

The dog was carried on board the lifeboat and taken back to shore and reunited with his owner.

"I’m so grateful to the crew. There are no words for how I feel right now," said Emily Linehan, Yogi's owner.

In the fall, Yogi suffered a fractured spine, fractured ribs, nerve damage, and an injured eye - but he is now at home resting.

"It looks like he's going to make a full recovery and will be able to run like he could before. He's a very lucky boy," Emily said.

Lifeboat helm James Hoare said: "We're just so glad we found him quickly as he was cold and shaking as well as injured. We wish him all the very best and the fastest possible recovery."

When visiting the coast with a dog the RNLI's key safety advice is:

  1. Keep dogs on a leash if you are close to cliff edges or fast-flowing rivers
  2. If your dog goes into the water or gets stuck in mud, do not go after them.
  3. Move to a place your dog can reach safely and call them.
  4. If you're worried about your dog, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.
