Two hikers and their dog had to be airlifted from a remote canyon trail after getting extremely dehydrated during a heatwave.

The pair and their dog Whisky were trekking along a remote trail near Romero Pass in Catalina State Park, about 13 miles northeast of Tucson, Arizona.

They were so overcome with "heat related issues" they could no longer continue on, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

According to the sheriff's office all three are now doing well, after the incident on August 28.

The entire mountain trail takes five hours to complete, and the region has been hit with searing temperatures.
