TAKING CARE OF FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS COULD COST OWNERS NEARLY FOUR GRAND A YEAR, ACCORDING TO NEW RESEARCH.

THE STUDY, CONDUCTED BY ONEPOLL ON BEHALF OF LEMONADE, ASKED 2,000 PET OWNERS (1,000 DOG OWNERS AND 1,000 CAT OWNERS) ABOUT HOW THEY BUDGET FOR THEIR PETS’ NEEDS.

RESULTS REVEALED THAT HALF OF ALL RESPONDENTS (52%) HAVE SET UP A MONTHLY BUDGET WITH AN AVERAGE CAP OF $308.

HOWEVER, NEARLY ALL OF THEM SAY THEY’VE GONE OVER THAT MONTHLY BUDGET (98%).

IN FACT, FOUR IN FIVE  (79%) ADMIT THEY “DON’T CARE” IF THEY GO OVER BUDGET.

WHAT CAUSES THEM TO DO SO? RESPONDENTS LISTED EMERGENCY VET VISITS (35%), UPGRADING THEIR PET’S HOME SITUATION AND TAKING CARE OF ANNUAL OR ONGOING MEDICAL NEEDS (BOTH 33%) AS TOP REASONS.

FOUR IN 10 RESPONDENTS HAVE GONE INTO DEBT BECAUSE OF THEIR PETS' EMERGENCY NEEDS (42%).
