Christopher Reeve’s ‘Superman’ costume among memorabilia worth millions being auctioned off

A complete "Superman" costume worn by Christopher Reeve in the classic films could fetch up to £500,000 ($538,016) at auction.

It is one of more than 1,500 pieces of film, television and music memorabilia worth over $11 million due to be sold.

The costume from the Superman franchise is estimated to fetch between £250,000 and £500,000 ($269,008 - $538,016).

Also up for sale are Darth Vader’s gloves from the original Star Wars - $161,400 to $269,000 and the Bible used by Tim Robbins’s character in "The Shawshank Redemption" to hide his miniature hammer -£100,000 - £150,000 ($107,603- $161,404).

Buyers can even purchase the legal title for ownership and use of the UK license plate J 8OND - £80,082 - £120,000 ($86,000- $129,123).

Auctioneers Propstore said there are also items on sale at more modest valuations, such as a Jurassic Park vehicle sticker - £500- £700($538 - $753),- a set of Marlon Brando behind the scenes photographs from the 1978 film "Superman"- £300 - £500 ($322 - $538)- and a set of autographed color pictures of different James Bond actors - £200 - £300 ($215-$322).

A percentage of the proceeds of some props from "Doctor Who," including a Light-Up New Paradigm Strategist Dalek- £8,000 - £12,000 ($8,608 - $12,912),- will go towards BBC Children in Need.

The auction is to take place between November 3-9 at BAFTA 195 in Piccadilly, central London.

Propstore said it will hold a preview exhibition at its office in Hertfordshire between October 4 and November 2 so that fans can see the props and costumes up close and ask questions to specialists.
