An astronaut has recreated the microgravity scenes from sci-fi classic "2001: A Space Odyssey."
European Space Agency's Samantha Cristoforetti donned a cosplay costume to imitate the air stewards negotiating near-weightlessness in Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film.
The jaw-dropping homage sees Cristoforetti seemingly walk around the circumference of the International Space Station's (ISS) inner hull.
Due to the fixed camera the action makes her look as if walking upside-down.
The 45-year old Italian, who became ISS commander last month, explained her motive by saying "I had to know… can you really walk in space with Velcro shoes?"
After pulling off the stunt, she concluded: "2022 A Space Odyssey. Turns out, yes, you can walk with Velcro shoes. Slowly, very very slowly."
ISS experiences a microgravity environment, which is when the pull of gravity is not very strong.
The ISS is located in orbit at an altitude of around 400km (248 miles) above Earth, orbiting the planet approximately 15 times per day in what is considered free fall.
