This mesmerizing footage shows a bizarre underwater sand formation that looks like a bubbling volcano.

Jeremy Smith, 43, was feeding some fish at his local lake, Wylie Lake in Aberdeen, South Dakota, when he spotted the strange sand formation.

He has been visited the lake since the start of the summer season and has seen the mystery formation growing every single day.

Jeremy, a manual laborer, believes it is the result of an underwater spring that feeds the lake and brings sediment up to the surface - resulting in this mesmerizing sight.

“At the start of the summer, when I first noticed it, it was a very small depression on the lake bed. Now it is around 10ft!," he said.

“I have no idea if it’s rare or not. I’ve never seen it before. I think it looks interesting. I check out its progress whenever I’m at the lake feeding the fish.

This video was filmed on September 6.
