The annual event takes over the city's Market Place and includes traditional fair favorites including dodgems and a ghost train.

In 1227, King Henry III granted a Charter to the Bishop of Salisbury to hold a fair on the third Monday in October.

The same Charter granted the city permission to hold a market every Tuesday. The Charter Market and Annual Fair are still held to this day.
