There were spooky scenes when these squirrels got in the Halloween mood.

The critters were snapped by Swedish wildlife fan Geert Weggen, 53, who sets up humorous scenes for the creatures that visit his home.

Geert finds that by letting the squirrels interact with tiny props, he can create quirky images.

The results include the rodents dancing with skeletons, appearing to have huge skull heads and even flying brooms.

"I love the Halloween theme. It is very creative and allows a little black humor," said Geert, from Bispgården.

"Most people associate squirrels as sweet, but this time I can picture them a little bad.

But getting the snaps requires plenty of preparation and patience from animal-lover Geert.

"I set up scenes and hide food for the squirrels. I also use wires, pins to keep the props in place, which I crop out," he said.

"These scenes were set-up on my balcony which is connected with the forest. At this moment there are about twelve red squirrels visiting me daily."
