This is the moment a New Jersey police officer shot a charging pit bull twice after being called out to a dangerous animal incident.

Police arrived in Keyport, NJ after a neighbor claimed the dog, called Blaze, had escaped his compound and was acting "aggressively."

Bodycam footage shows the moment an officer discharged their weapon twice as the dog raced toward them.

The pit bull was then seen retreating and whimpering.

Keyport Police Department said in a statement: "A Keyport couple are facing charges after their dog acted in an aggressive manner towards a resident and prompted an officer to fire his weapon on Saturday evening."

Alexyss Ferrara, 29, and Angel Velez Jr, 34, were charged with possessing a dangerous dog and other violations related to the dog’s behavior.

Blaze is now recovering at a New Jersey animal hospital after being treated and bandaged.

It is unclear what will become of the dog.
