An American government agency has released a bizarre 2023 calendar featuring giant cats superimposed onto engineering locations.

The Portland District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wanted to find an eye-catching way of showing off their civil works programs across Oregon and southwestern Washington.

A highlight includes a kitty watching a law enforcement team practicing abseiling off the John Day Dam on the Columbia River.

Further feline fun sees cats using cranes as dangle toys and huge dams as stretching posts.

Monthly humorous captions include "Detroit Dam is not only fun to chew on but also a pretty important flood risk management project."

The Portland District say they are "one of the nation's most comprehensive and diversified civil works programs."

The District operates locks and dams along the Columbia River, operates dams in the Willamette Valley for flood risk management, maintains Oregon's coastal rivers for navigation and leads the Nation in hydropower generation.

They say they ensure "equal attention to environmental protection and restoration, fish and wildlife enhancement and recreation."
