Police were called to a rural town to round up a runaway pig and a sheep that escaped their enclosure.

The large pig was spotted trotting down the road in Highworth, Wiltshire, on Saturday morning, forcing Wiltshire Police to save his bacon.

A local runner had spotted the animal, who had escaped his enclosure alongside a sheep before the pair went on a journey into town.

Officers from the North, East and Rural Swindon community policing team eventually also managed to track down the sheepish Ewe, which was found in a local resident's back garden.

Both animals have been successfully returned to their owners, with photos published by the community policing team showing the confused sheep standing on a flower bed.

A spokesman for the policing team said: "What a morning myself and PC Tonge have dealt with a runaway pig (be nice) in Highworth.

"Now feeling a little sheepish with a loose sheep in Haydon End. Love my job. Something different every day!"
