HOW MANY PURCHASES DO YOU BELIEVE WERE “WORTH EVERY PENNY?”

FOR THE AVERAGE AMERICAN, IT’S ONLY ABOUT HALF.

IN FACT, A SURVEY OF 2,000 U.S. ADULTS REVEALED THAT 15% ADMIT THEY’RE SATISFIED BY ONLY 20% OF WHAT THEY BUY, DESPITE TWO-THIRDS HAVING HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR EVERYTHING THEY SPEND MONEY ON.

CONDUCTED BY ONEPOLL ON BEHALF OF CHIME FOR NATIONAL FINANCE AWARENESS DAY, RESULTS  REVEALED THE PURCHASES THAT GAVE RESPONDENTS THE MOST BANG FOR THEIR BUCK INCLUDE BUYING A CAR OR MOTORCYCLE.

THEY’RE ALSO SATISFIED WITH BUYING OTHER ITEMS MAKE THEIR LIVES EASIER SUCH AS A “WASHER AND DRYER” OR “AIR FRYER.”

BUT FOR SOME, THOSE PURCHASES WERE MORE PERSONAL, SUCH AS “MAJOR SURGERY FOR THE FAMILY DOG” OR EVEN THEIR “MARRIAGE LICENSE.”

AND WHILE THE AVERAGE RESPONDENT PLANS THEIR BUDGET THREE MONTHS IN ADVANCE, THEY SAY THEY WILL INEVITABLY END UP MAKING THREE UNPLANNED PURCHASES A MONTH.

Survey methodology:

This random double-opt-in survey of 2,000 general population Americans was commissioned by Chime between July 25 and July 31, 2023. It was conducted by market research company OnePoll, whose team members are members of the Market Research Society and have corporate membership to the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) and the European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research (ESOMAR).
