Couple share their first kiss ever on wedding day

A couple waited until their wedding day to share their first ever kiss – and say holding out was “rewarding” despite their first peck being “stiff” and “awkward”.

Sarah Patriquin, 22, met her partner, Wayne, 23, at a Christian camp and after a year of friendship they started dating.

The pair decided to wait to have sex until marriage for religious reasons and Sarah said she wanted to wait until their wedding day to share their first kiss.

Wayne, a mechanic, agreed and the pair kept their temptations at bay until they tied the knot in July 2019 - after two years together.

They shared their first peck at the alter but said they didn’t know “what to do” and it was “stiff”.

But Sarah and Wayne don’t regret waiting as they say they have now bonded over growing and learning about the physical side of their relationship.

Now the couple have a five month old daughter, Addison, and say their marriage is “healthier than ever”.

Sarah, a stay-at-home mom from, Rexburg, Idaho, US, said: “We decided not to kiss – we didn’t want to put ourselves in that situation.

“Kissing can lead to other things.

“At the wedding we lent in for the first kiss – it was very stiff. We didn’t know what we were doing.

“Our first kiss was just for a few seconds.

“We consummated the marriage – it was kind of awkward.

“It took a little while to adjust to being married.

“We grew in our physical life together without expectation for each other.

“Now our physical life is so good and satisfying.”

Wayne said: “Sarah wanted the first kiss to be on the wedding day.

“I said ‘if that’s what you want, I will do that’ – I wanted to prove my love to her.

“It was incredibly rewarding to have the first kiss be on your wedding day.

“It was something to strive for.”

Sarah and Wayne met at Christian camp, aged 16 and 17, and gradually got to know each other and became friends.

Sarah said: “I’d already seen a picture of him on Facebook. I thought he was really cute.

“I wrote him a letter to say ‘sorry if you’ve been distracted by my flirting’ at the end of camp and he asked to take me on a date.

“Our parents wanted us to be friends first.”

The pair hung out for a year before they were allowed to start dating in June 2018.

Sarah said: “We were both raised to save ourselves for marriage.

“We respected each other to wait.”

The pair would go on dates with one of their siblings around.

Sarah said: “It was like being chaperoned to have that accountability.

“We spent a lot of time together in a group setting.”

Wayne proposed to Sarah in February 2019, after asking for her parents’ permission, but the pair continued to wait until their wedding day to kiss.

They would hold hands and “cuddle” around family but didn’t let each other get to close.

Sarah said: “We would hold hands and hug.

“We started cuddling on the couch when we were engaged.

“There were times we had opportunities to do things.

“It took a lot of self-control. It’s a mindset thing.

“I needed to be logical with my thinking.

“If we became physical it would hinder my logical thinking – that’s just me.”

The couple tied the knot in July 2019 in a “simple” wedding and shared their first kiss, before consummating their marriage later that night.

Sarah said: “Sex is a sacred thing.

“To wait for two years – it makes me proud of us.

“It’s an accomplishment.”

The pair worked on their sex life together and started trying for children straight away.

Sarah said: "It’s created a stronger bong – growing together.

“Every person you have sex with, you give a part of yourself to them.

“That’s why it’s important to have that for the person you marry.”

After struggling to conceive for three years, Sarah fell pregnant in October 2022 and the couple welcomed their daughter in June 2023.

The couple are OK for their little girl to kiss before marriage but would want her to save herself.

Sarah said: “Sex is not just fun and games.

“I was raised that sex out of marriage causes more issues because of comparing yourself.”

The couple now say their marriage – including their sex life – is “magical”.

Sarah said: “Our marriage is the healthiest it’s ever been.”

Wayne said: “I wouldn’t change anything.”
