Two raging red squirrels are captured going nuts over a bird feeder.

The pair were photographed scrapping in a back garden on the Isle of Wight.

One picture shows one of the critters appearing to punch the other as it attempts to cross onto a bird table.

Wildlife photographer Andrew Fusek Peters captured the incredible “boxing match” while visiting a friend near Compton Bay on the island at the weekend.

He said: “A friend of mine has a wonderfully big garden with many species of butterflies which I was keen to photograph.

“They have these sliding patio doors and I was just watching these squirrels leaping from the bird tables.

“I happened to see the fight by accident. One was chasing the other and there was a standoff before one of them launched itself.

“At one stage they seemed to be almost boxing each other for control over the bird feeder.

"Another picture shows one of the squirrels getting the other in a headlock as they wrestled in mid-air.

“I fired off a load of shots and was amazed by the result. I love to get unique action shots.”

Award-winning photographer Andrew is currently travelling the UK documenting wildlife in people's gardens for a new book.
