Wildlife photographer showcases cute cubs to mark World Lion Day

For World Lion Day wildlife photographer Paul Goldstein shares what he calls an "unashamedly cute collection" of lion cubs.

Each year on Aug. 10, big cat lovers around the world use this day to bring awareness to the declining population.

The Wimbledon-based safari guide and conservationist has been photographing the predators for over 30 years.

He says: "Lion numbers are in peril almost everywhere in Africa mainly due to human encroachment.

"However, there are a few success stories where a combination of proper compassionate and efficient management and a few heroes have ensured pockets of these cats are flourishing.

"Every one of these images were taken in the Mara Conservancies in Kenya, where every dollar of tourist's money is audited and spent wisely ensuring the best possible experience for both lions and their admirers.

"These Conservancies are the future and to guide there without the crowds has been a pleasure for many years particularly when you encounter young families -some of these cubs are only a few weeks old.

"It is a real joy sharing this with guests, many have 'kittens' when they see their first youngsters."
