Man-eating wolf that killed 9 people caught in India

A man-eating wolf which was part of a pack blamed for killing nine people and injuring 35 more has been caught after a 200-person strong hunt.

The pack has been hunting down people - including children - near the banks of rivers in northern India's Uttar Pradesh for around six weeks.

Officials launched Operation Bhediya - which involves 16 forest department teams, over 200 policemen, drone mapping and thermal imaging cameras.

The forest department had already captured three wolves, but the attacks continued, leading to widespread fear among the local population.

And yesterday (August 29) a fourth wolf - as seen in this video - was caught.

A local source said: "Authorities believe more wolves are still on the loose.

"The capture marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to control the terror that has gripped the region for the past month and a half.

"This wolf, part of a pack that has killed nine people and injured 35 others, was apprehended near the banks of a river after an intense search operation."

It was captured in Bahraich district.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath is personally overseeing the operation, and additional measures are being taken to protect villagers, including the installation of doors and toilets in homes and increased night patrols.
