A wildlife photographer has captured adorable pictures of a mother polar bear and cubs.

Paul Goldstein spotted the family soon after they had left their den in Baffin Island, Canada, this year.

He says: "The cubs were the smallest I've seen and fresh from the den and the mother was trawling the ice for smells of newly born seals, critical to her post-hibernation diet. However, she was keen not to exhaust her young.

"The following few hours were among the very best I've ever experienced in over 30 years photographing in the wild."

Wimbledon-based Paul says finding a polar bear in this "white tapestry" is very challenging, but a local Inuit guide was able to locate the animals.

The wildlife guide adds: "A little bit of frostnip and a few frozen cameras were a small price to pay for me and my group. Sometimes, just sometimes, it all comes together."
