Internet users are shocked by the discovery of disturbing messages spotted in Los Angeles.

The large words, which include 'HELP', 'LAPD', 'FEDERAL', and 'TRAFICO', appear to be spelled out using construction materials and debris. They are visible in an undeveloped lot, on a sidewalk, and on a billboard.

Their location next to a shipping yard has even led to the theory they could be connected to human trafficking and are a desperate cry for help.

Web sleuths spotted the messages on Google Maps near the Union Pacific railroad yard in downtown LA.

However, some web users say the words have been there since at least February 2023, judging by earlier pictures on Google Maps.

Others have suggested they are the work of a homeless man, with one post on the discussion saying, "He's been arrested and let go a few times, some of them (locals) even met him."

It is likely law enforcement in the area is aware of the messages, as one Google Street View scene even shows a Los Angeles County Sheriff's vehicle passing the billboard with words daubed on it that include 'HELP' and 'FBI'.
