Baby wallaby emerges from albino mom’s pouch after 4 months inside

A wallaby joey has been pictured emerging from its albino mom's pouch - after spending four months inside.

The joey, which is yet to be named, has begun to emerge from the pouch of its mother - an albino Bennett's wallaby named Mrs. Bennett.

After four months inside its mother's pouch, the wallaby joey was seen peeking at the outside world for the first time.

Adorable photos, taken at Auchingarrich Wildlife Park in Perthshire, captured the moment - with a special appearance from the joey's older brother Jo-Jo, who was born last year.

Like its brother, this joey did not inherit their mum's rare albino gene.

Bennett's wallabies, also known as red-necked wallabies, are native to eastern Australia, and common in the island state of Tasmania.

After a gestation period of just 29 days, joeys are born tiny and helpless, weighing less than a gram - and so they remain in their mother's pouch for a further 280 days while they continue to develop.

Joeys remain with their mothers for a further three to nine months to feed, with females reaching maturity at around 14 months, and males around 19 months.
