Locals have been left amused after a blow-up doll was spotted inside an abandoned car that had crashed into a ditch.

The aftermath of the crash, on Mill Lane in Swindon, Wilts, saw a car after the driver allegedly fled - and a blow-up doll placed in the empty seat.

Photos of the scene were shared online.

Casey Waren-Keel was one of the members of the public who spotted the doll and found it amusing - sharing a snap on the Swindon Community Notice Board.

She said: "I spoke to the police officer myself when this happened.

"The driver ran away after crashing the car, but whoever did this made me laugh this morning."

She indicated that the car had been sitting there for a long time, which may have prompted the public prank.

Her post received hundreds of reactions and comments.

One person said: "I drove past this today. Good to see humor isn't dead."

"Saw this on my way to Aldi this morning, made me chuckle," Another said.

A third person added: "Passed this loads of times the past week, assumed it's now a permanent fixture. Hope she's got a license."

Others mentioned that they hoped the extra attention would encourage whoever was responsible to remove it.

The fun didn't last for long, however, as it was further reported that the doll had been removed by Wednesday.

Photos taken on Monday showed the black car had left the road and ended up in a ditch full of reeds and other shrubs after seemingly hitting a yellow-bordered sign with black and white arrows which indicates that a sharp bend is ahead.

The access to the boot had been removed or damaged, and the front passenger side door was open, with the front passenger seat leaning forward.

The person-shaped inflatable object could be seen leaning behind the wheel and looking out through where the front driver's side window used to be, and the hubcap of the wheel below the front driver's side door was missing.

The rear driver's side wheel hung in mid-air.

Scraps of police tape were still attached to the vehicle's wing mirror indicating that a police cordon had been put in place at some point.

However, when Wiltshire Police were approached for comment they said there was nothing on their incident logs that could match the location of this accident.
