Google changes Gulf of Mexico to ‘Gulf of America’ but only in US
The real name remains if you are viewing in Mexico, the Trumped up name applies for US-based users, and both are listed for those viewing Google in the rest of the world.

The Gulf of Mexico is now the Gulf of America - depending on where you check your map.
Google Maps switched names on Monday (10 Feb) after President Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming the waters.
However, the original name remains if you are viewing in Mexico, the new name applies for U.S. web users, and both are listed for those viewing Google in the rest of the world.
On January 20, 2025, Trump signed Executive Order 14172 directing the interior secretary to adopt the name Gulf of America, specifying an area of the U.S. continental shelf "extending to the seaward boundary with Mexico and Cuba."
In a White House Presidential Action proclamation, president Trump wrote: "Today, I am very honored to recognize February 9, 2025, as the first-ever Gulf of America Day.
"I took this action in part because, as stated in that Order, “[t]he area formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico has long been an integral asset to our once burgeoning Nation and has remained an indelible part of America.”
While the Interior Department confirmed that the Gulf of America name was effective for U.S. federal agencies on January 24, the change does not apply in an international context.
