Kittens born on rare celestial event named after planets

An adorable litter of kittens has been named after planets after their mom Star gave birth on the same day as a rare astronomical event.

Star was rescued by the Blue Cross animal charity after being found as a heavily pregnant stray in an outhouse in Solihull, West Mids., on New Year's Eve.

A few weeks later on January 25 she gave birth to kittens Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune - on the same day six planets were aligned in the sky.

In keeping with the mother’s name, and the rare celestial event, the team named the kittens after the planets visible in the night sky that evening.

The charity are now looking for new homes for their "five little stars" after they born at a rehoming center in Catshill, Bromsgrove, Worcs.

Caroline Oram, adoptions coordinator at Blue Cross Bromsgrove, said: “Star and her kittens are doing really well.

“She came into us heavily pregnant with three kittens already – at only 12 months old she has not had a chance to be a kitten herself.

“She is the most affectionate cat and a great mother and her kittens are thriving.”

The mom and her kittens are currently being cared for in foster homes.

The center said it is always looking for volunteer foster carers who can look after the animals in their own homes until a permanent one is found by the charity.

Caroline added: "The more fosterers we can get, the more we're able to assist with as many animals as possible.

"They do a really incredible job caring for the animals until we can find them their forever homes and we find pets thrive in real homes with all the hustle and bustle of everyday life."
