Jaw-dropping pictures show a huge storm looking like a UFO.

Mati Mederos captured the otherworldly scene in Uruguay on Friday (Feb. 14).

He says: "There was an incredible structure of a classic supercell on the west coast.

"The supercell caused hail of up to 7cm - which affected vehicles and houses in the area - and very violent wind gusts.

"It caused many trees to fall, power outage, complete destruction of a house of material and injured people."

A supercell is a type of long-lasting thunderstorm notable for a rotating updraft called a mesocyclone.

These storms, while the least common type of thunderstorm, are also the most likely to be severe, with the potential for powerful winds, large hail, and tornadoes.
