The stranded astronauts are coming home.

NASA's Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, together with Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, departed the International Space Station (ISS) at 5:05 am UK time on Tuesday (March 18).

They undocked from the space-facing port of ISS’s Harmony module aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.

It will take them approximately 17 hours to journey back to Earth, with a splashdown scheduled for around 10 pm GMT off the coast of Florida.

Astronauts Wilmore and Williams were on the Space Station for an unexpectedly long duration of 286 days due to technical issues with their original spacecraft, the Boeing Starliner.
